Affiant:
The person who makes an affidavit.
Affidavit:
A written sworn statement of fact, typically witnessed by a notary.
Affix:
To attach or impress a seal.
Acknowledgment:
A notarial act in which a notary certifies that a signer has voluntarily signed a document.
Acknowledgment Form:
The form signed by a notary and the signer to confirm an acknowledgment.
Certificate of Authority:
A document issued by a state that grants authority to an individual to act as a notary public.
Deed of Trust:
A document used in real estate transactions that conveys the title to a property to a trustee for the purpose of securing a debt.
Execution Date:
The date on which a document is signed.
Grantor and Grantee:
The person conveying an interest in property (grantor) and the person receiving the interest (grantee).
Jurat:
A notarial act in which a notary certifies that a signer has sworn to the content of a document.
Lien:
A legal right or interest in a property.
Notary Public:
A public officer appointed to witness and authenticate the execution of documents.
Oath:
A solemn declaration or promise, often used in conjunction with notarial acts.
Personal Appearance:
The requirement for a signer to be physically present before a notary when signing a document.
Power of Attorney:
A legal document that grants someone the authority to act on behalf of another person in legal matters.
Record:
To document or officially register a transaction.
Seal:
An official stamp or embossment used by a notary to authenticate their acts.
Surety Bond:
A type of insurance that protects the public in case a notary makes an error or commits fraud.
Venue:
The location where a notarial act takes place.
